for the move with your credit card,
if possible. That way, if there's a disagreement about
total charges, your credit card company will generally
help you with the dispute.
Turn
to the industry trade group for help
if necessary. The American Moving and Storage Association
administers an arbitration program, but it's limited
to damage or losses of $1,000 or less. For larger claims,
go to court.
Buy
insurance. Carriers provide
minimal liability coverage for loss and damage, but
you can buy more coverage from them if you wish. Before
you sign up, check with your insurance agent to see
if your homeowners policy covers all or part of a move.
Ask whether damage and loss are covered during packing,
in transit, and at delivery. Here's the coverage you
